GOTA
Gout is the most common inflammatory
arthritis. Acute gout flares are the extremely painful consequence of uric acid
crystals forming within joints. Uric acid is a natural by-product of the
metabolism of ingested purines, which are found naturally in most foods (and
within cells of the human body). Purines occur in particularly high
concentrations in organ meat, seafood, and alcohol (yeast).
Research, has shown that an acute gout attack is more than twice as likely to occur during the night or early morning hours as during the day. The increased prevalence of gout attacks at night time was observed even after 24 hours with no alcohol and low purine intake.
